Privacy policy
Last updated: 22 October 2026. Applies to the RemoveAnnoyance browser extension and this website.
In short
RemoveAnnoyance has no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. It does not collect, sell or share your browsing history or any personal data. Everything it needs to work stays in your browser.
What stays in your browser
- Your settings: enabled filter lists, sites where you switched the extension off, and the on/off switches.
- The downloaded filter lists, compiled into rules.
- The browser languages and the country found at installation (see below), so the options page can show them.
- Counters for the open tab (hidden elements, clicked dialogs, blocked requests). They are kept in memory and deleted when the tab closes.
The extension reads the address of the pages you visit only inside your browser, to decide which rules apply. It never sends that address anywhere, except in a problem report you choose to send.
What is sent over the internet, and when
- Filter list downloads: after installation, then about every 12 hours, the extension downloads the public filter lists from their official addresses (raw.githubusercontent.com, easylist.to, easylist-downloads.adblockplus.org, cdn.jsdelivr.net, www.zoso.ro, www.void.gr). Only the list files are requested. As with any web request, these servers see your IP address.
- Country lookup, once after installation: one request to
https://www.cloudflare.com/cdn-cgi/trace(or, if that fails,https://api.country.is/) to learn the country of your IP address. It is used only to switch on the regional filter lists for that country. No cookies are sent. You can repeat the lookup or switch lists off in the options. - Problem reports, only when you click "Send report" in the extension's popup. A report contains the address
of the current page without its query string and fragment, your optional comment, the extension version, your
browser's user agent, the enabled filter lists and the counters for that tab. It is sent to this website's server
(
/api/report). Nothing is sent without your click.
What this website collects
The website has no cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts. Like any web server it may keep short-lived technical access logs (IP address, time, requested address) for operation and security.
Permissions the extension asks for
- Access to all websites: to hide dialogs and popups on any site you open, and to block banner scripts.
- declarativeNetRequest: to block consent-banner and notification scripts; Chrome applies these rules itself, the extension does not see your traffic.
- scripting, webNavigation, tabs: to apply the right rules to each page and frame, and to show the counters for the current tab.
- storage, unlimitedStorage: to keep your settings and the downloaded filter lists on your computer.
- alarms: to refresh the filter lists in the background.
Children
The extension does not collect personal data from anyone, including children.
